PhD Programme Structure (Courses)
To the teaching component is assigned with 60 ECTS, and the research component – 120 ECTS.
Mandatory courses of the teaching component:
- Academic writing -5 ECTS;
- Teaching and learning methods – 5 ECTS;
- Qualitative methods and research design in European Studies - 5 ECTS;
- Assistance to Professor – 5 ECTS;
- Advanced European Economics - 5 ECTS;
- Two seminars presented to the audience - 20 ECTS;
- Quantitative Methods/Applied Statistics with SPSS - 5 ECTS;
- Advanced EU Law - 5 ECTS.
Other courses are elective and are as follows:
- Comparative Course on EU (Supranational) and UN (Universal) International Organization - 5 ECTS;
- Electoral Politics in Europe - 5 ECTS;
- Idea of Europe - 5 ECTS;
- Assistance to Professor – 5 ECTS.
The individual educational plan is elaborated by The PhD students within the framework of the general university scheme that is to be agreed with the scientific supervisor and the head of the PhD Programme.
The research component covers preparation of two colloquiums in total of 40 ECTS (20 ECTS each) as well as the preparation and defense of PhD dissertation that counts for 80 ECTS.

includes the following
mandatory components performance: European MPA programme mandatory courses
"Governance and Decision-Making process in the European Union (European
Integration Theories and EU Institutions)", "EU Law",
"Economics of Integration to the EU " and/or "European
history," assisting by the relevant professor, participation the training
course for the duration of the semester, developing and writing the research
proposal in agreement with the professor during the course. Also, achievement
of at least one additional component out of the following components: a)
participation in the training courses organized specially for the PhD students
within the frames of the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning Methods
created in the Institute for European Studies of the TSU and development of syllabuses
based on the knowledge acquired with the scientific supervisor or preparation
of individual lectures; b) preparation of video lectures using innovative methods
of learning for undergraduate and master programmes students; c) performing other
practical components indicated by the scientific supervisor, such as assisting
in assessment of undergraduate and master programmes students’ quiz, essays,
presentations, midterm and final exams). The professorʹs assistantship
component will be deemed to be performed if the PhD student submits the
detailed report filled in the proper form and certified by the scientific
supervisor.
